If you rent your premises, your personal belongings are not covered by your landlord's property insurance policy, and in the event of a loss could add up to thousands of dollars to replace things like appliances, furniture, clothing, bed linens, television and stereo equipment just to name a few. Renters insurance is an important part of protecting your personal belongings in case of a fire, theft, vandalism, water (other than flood) or lightning damage or some other covered loss.
Something you may not have thought of is liability coverage to protect you against liability claims such as bodily injury or damage to someone else's property from a covered accident. Guest medical coverage provides protection for your guest's medical expenses if they are injured on your property as a result of a covered loss. You should also inquire about living expense coverage in case of a covered loss that causes your residence to be unliveable.
Optional coverage is also available for personal computers, portable communication systems, jewelry, watches and furs etc. so be sure to discuss this with your agent, along with asking about any discounts that may be available, such as if you have your auto insurance with the same company.
